50th State

Not only is Hawai’i the 50th state of the USA, but it was my final state to visit. The Big Island specifically can feel like a microcosm of different parts of the US since it has 8 of 13 climate zones within a few hours drive. Sometimes it was uncanny, coming over a ridge and feeling so similar to other places. That feeling has only increased the more I’ve traveled. When I was in Morocco earlier this year it could have been in Arizona/Utah. Also, when I was in Chile, it felt exactly like California. It’s comforting for me to be traveling and have things be sort of familiar yet across the world(In the ecology sense not Starbucks). It lets you really explore the idiosyncrasies and nuance without feeling totally overwhelmed. Anyways, here are some pictures from the Big Island in October/November 2022.
