When I’m photographing, I try to be in the present about what’s in front of me, but inevitably the photographs have pasts and futures. With these pictures of Moscow however, I can’t help to think that they are forever in the past. The world changed, the city changed, the people changed. It’s boggling how geo-political events can have a direct relationship to memory and interpretations of images; how an image that felt uninteresting to me previously changes with time and context.
