The Christmas season is upon us yet again. For a lot of people there are a huge mix of emotions surrounding it, whether it’s complex family dynamics, religious baggage, or intense consumerism. I’ve personally always felt a mix of ambivalence and fascination by other people’s devout dedication to this holiday that feels so arbitrary to me. I like to vicariously feel people’s excitement through their over-the-top dècor, parties, and lights; I’m happy they’re happy. It’s societally interesting to me that most of the people that go to the nines for Christmas don’t seem to do outwardly creative pursuits the rest of the year, and I love that this is their avenue to shine. In a dark world, I’m glad people can feel some joy, albeit maybe only in December. Enjoy XO RUBY : )
